Ten dead dogs and eleven dead guinea pigs were among more than 100 animals found in a Nevada couple’s car, hotel room and home.

When officers stopped the vehicle near Nevada Way and Jupiter Way, the vehicle’s occupants rolled down a window and the odor of dead animals came from the car.

Inside were a variety of plastic tote bags and luggage containing 51 guinea pigs and rabbits. Eleven guinea pigs had already died, while four others have since died.

“Our officers knew right away something was wrong,” Lt. Thomas Healing of the Boulder City Police Department said in a news release.

“The suspect was concerned about other animals they believed were at her home and at a hotel in Las Vegas, and immediately notified the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.”

When LVMPD officers arrived at the hotel room, they found thirty dogs inside. Ten died. At the couple’s home, fifteen dogs and other guinea pigs were found.

“Veterinary treatment will likely cost thousands of dollars for these animals,” added Boulder City Animal Control Supervisor Ann Inabnitt in the news release.

“We are also seeing that some animals are pregnant, so it may be weeks before we have an exact number of animals impounded. I appreciate the efforts of the person who called us to give us the information as well as the quick response of the officers to investigate.”

local media KSNV reported that the couple was charged with Timothy Miller, 79, and Carolyn Luke, 72, who both face eleven counts of torturing, injuring, abandoning or starving an animal.
