Rufus

Create bootable USB drives the easy way. Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys, memory sticks, etc.

It can be especially useful for cases where:

  • You need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, etc.)
  • you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
  • you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
  • you want to run a low-level utility

Now in order to install Windows 7, 8, 10 using this USB drive, your motherboard must support booting from USB drives.

Rufus_create_bootable_usb_disk_windows_7

Clicking the icon beside this option and select the .ISO installation file of Windows you which to install.

Then click on “Start†button below. The process will start and finish quickly.

Some Computer has Option to temporary boot from Cd/HDD/Floppy/USB Device, Press the appropriate key – often F8, F11 or F12, to get Boot Menu and now choose the USB hard drive.

Alternatively, go to your CMOS options of your motherboard by pressing F2 or Del key and under Boot options, make booting from USB hard drive as the priority. Press ESC, choose save settings, and exit.

You PC or laptop should now automatically boot from USB drive and start giving you the options to install your Windows.

The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool starts copying all the contents of the ISO image to the USB drive and will make it bootable in a couple of minutes.

Once done, you can connect bootable USB to the PC on which you want to install Windows 10, change BIOS settings to boot from USB, and start installing Windows 10.

Quite simply I downloaded it from microsoft and then used winrar to put it onto my usb drive works fine, managed to upgrade 4 laptops that way instead of downloading from MS each time and I still have the folders on my usb drive.
