Saint Seraphim of Sarov
Saint Seraphim of Sarov (born July 19, 1759, Kursk, Russia—died Jan. 2, 1833, was a Russian monk and mystic whose ascetic practice and counselling in cases of conscience won him the title starets (Russian: “spiritual teacher”).

A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but is he peaceful, loving, and fearless then he is in truth called wise.

  1. Drink water from the spring where horses drink. The horse will never drink bad water.
  2. Lay your bed where the cat sleeps.
  3. Eat the fruit that has been touched by a worm.
  4. Boldly pick the mushroom on which the insects sit.
  5. Plant the tree where the mole digs.
  6. Build your house where the snake sits to warm itself.
  7. Dig your fountain where the birds hide from heat.
  8. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time with the birds, you will reap all of the day’s golden grains.
  9. Eat more green, you will have strong legs and a resistant heart, like the beings of the forest.
  10. Swim often and you will feel on earth like the fish in the water.
  11. Look at the sky as often as possible and your thoughts will become light and clear.
  12. Be quiet a lot, speak little, and silence will come in your heart, and your spirit will be calm and full of peace.
