Whether you’re stuck in traffic or squished between sweaty strangers on a train, there’s no denying that commuting is a necessary evil for many people. But just because it’s a drag, doesn’t mean you have to suffer in silence. In fact, with a little creativity, you can turn your commute from a daily grind into a source of endless entertainment.

Here are ten hilarious ways to make your commute more bearable, even if you hate your job:

Become a Karaoke King/Queen
If you’re driving, take advantage of the solitude of your car and crank up the tunes. Sing your heart out to your favourite songs and pretend you’re the lead singer of a world-famous band. If you’re taking public transport, invest in a pair of headphones and sing along quietly. You may get a few strange looks, but who cares? You’re having fun.

Pretend You’re on a Game Show
Turn your commute into a game show and play along with imaginary questions. For example, if you’re on a bus or train, you could ask yourself questions like “What’s the name of the fourth person to get on the train?” or “How many people on this bus are wearing hats?” Make up your own rules and keep score. You might even win a prize!

Invent Imaginary Conversations
If you’re stuck in traffic or waiting for a train, create imaginary conversations with the people around you. Imagine what they’re saying to each other and come up with witty responses in your head. You never know, you might just crack yourself up.

Do a Crossword Puzzle
If you’re a fan of crossword puzzles, bring one along on your commute. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the time flies by when you’re focused on solving clues. Plus, it’s a great way to keep your mind sharp.

Take a Power Nap
If you’re tired after a long day at work, use your commute as an opportunity to catch up on some much-needed sleep. Bring a pillow and blanket on the train or bus, or pull over at a rest stop and take a quick nap in your car. Just make sure you set an alarm so you don’t miss your stop!

Learn a New Language
If you’re bored with your commute, why not use the time to learn a new language? Download a language learning app like Duolingo or Rosetta Stone and practice your skills on the train or bus. Who knows, you might just impress your boss with your newfound language skills.

Meditate
If you’re feeling stressed out, use your commute as an opportunity to meditate. Put on some relaxing music or a guided meditation app and focus on your breath. You’ll arrive at work feeling calm, cantered, and ready to take on the day.

Write in a Journal
If you’re a writer, use your commute as an opportunity to jot down your thoughts and ideas. Carry a small notebook with you and write down anything that comes to mind. You never know, you might just come up with your next great idea.

Take Photos
If you’re taking public transport, use the time to take photos of your surroundings. You’ll be amazed at the interesting things you can capture when you’re looking at the world through a camera lens. Plus, you’ll have some great shots to show off to your friends and family.

Play a Game
If you’re traveling with a friend or family member, why not play a game to pass the time? There are plenty of games you can play on your commute, from classic card games like Go Fish or Uno to mobile games like Words with Friends or Candy Crush. Just make sure you don’t get too competitive and end up missing your stop!

So, the next time you find yourself stuck in traffic or crammed onto a crowded train, try out some of these ideas and see if they can help make your day a little bit brighter.

Thanks for sharing. This list reminds me of how fortunate I am to only have a three minute drive to work. This list would have come in handy earlier in life when I had a commute of over 100 miles... one way!
