Legoman Posted November 9, 2023 #1 Posted November 9, 2023 Asking in here because the thousands of web search results found are all irrelevent. Simple setup. LG TV running webOS, has been rooted and Kodi is installed as an app. Connected to home network via Cat5 cable HTPC located on same network through same router running Windows 7, wide open, Administrator rights everywhere, no passwords. Kodi also installed on HTPC (thought not sure if this is necessary, but done so anyway just in case) All I want to do is get Kodi on the LG TV to connect to the HTPC and retreive the media files off it for playing on the screen, yet I cannot find any sensible guides online that step through what should be a very simple process. I've already done all the hard stuff by rooting the TV, installing the alternative non-genuine appstore called Homebrew and installed the Kodi app, but configuring it to find and read from the HTPC on the same network is proving impossible. Any Kodi experts in here who can help please?
Andr-Tech uk666 Posted November 9, 2023 Andr-Tech #2 Posted November 9, 2023 There is currently no stable Kodi version for WebOS. According to: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. It is not easy or simple to get Kodi working on WebOS. You may wish to make a post on their website but they probably need: Which webOS The TV model Debug logs 2 1
Legoman Posted November 11, 2023 Author #3 Posted November 11, 2023 I suspect they're talking about standard non-rooted TV's not supporting Kodi, which is probably true. I however have done this to mine: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. I primarily did this to get the modded ad-free version of youtube so I could watch whatever I want without all the sponsor-laden, self-promoting (like, subscribe, share) rubbish that has made standard youtube basically unwatchable of recent times. Whilst that side of things works perfectly and reliably, I also noted there was a modded Kodi version there as well in the same Homebrew alternative jailbroken (like Cydia for iPhones) appstore. I recognised the name, so installed to try out and from what I can tell it seems to work perfectly too. All I need to know is how to point it to and communicate with the HTPC on the same home network to be able to stream the video content there. It's worth pointing out that I can already do this using LG's own software called SmartShare which uses something called DLNA to parse the video between the two devices. This works fine, however it is very rudimentary software, isn't really supported by LG, isn't updated, isn't being improved and has lots and lots of glitches, foibles and general weirdness in its operation, such that it is not very user-friendly to a newcomer. For this reason I was hoping Kodi might be the solution for a much better supported alternative that does the same general thing, only much, much better.
Andr-Tech uk666 Posted November 11, 2023 Andr-Tech #4 Posted November 11, 2023 No, information I have posted is from the link I have posted above, its Kodi own website. I am locking this; I think you will need to follow the above link and ask for help in their forum. 1
