How to Recover Video (.vob) Files from DVD

Recommended Posts

I used Toshiba unit to transfer old video footage from VHS tape to a DVD. When I play it on my PC via DVD drive, it plays fine. I want to create an ISO file or want to copy the all files on my PC so I can upgrade to 1080P.  I tried to ultraiso/poweriso apps including just copying files thru windows explorer. It copies about 40 percent then it just stops. Same thing happens when I use poweriso or ultraiso. DVD has no scratches or anything like that. How do I copy all the .vob files to my desktop. I am running win10 x64 OS.

@PunjabiHow much memory do you have, maybe that could be the problem for stopping at 40% ?

Getting stuck halfway when carrying out Windows 11/10 operation processing

When the file size is too large to copy that takes huge resources of your PC, you might see your computer freeze. Also, there might be other reasons like high disk or CPU usage by other programs, corrupted services, disk fragmentation, etc.

Some of the most common solutions:

1. Disable Remote Differential Compression

RDC or Remote Differential Compression syncs data with the remote source over the network. Sometimes, it might even cause the delays in copying process even on drives without a network. We need to eliminate that cause by disabling Remote Differential Compression on Windows.

  • Click on the Start menu and type Turn Windows features on or off. Open the result.
  • Search for Remote Differential Compression API Support and Uncheck the box next to it.
  • Click OK to save the changes.

2. Disable Indexing of your Drives
Sometimes, the indexing process of files on a drive can also cause the issue of slow copying of files or stuck halfway. Though indexing allows the PC to work better by creating data of drives in the cache, it might cause the delay in copying process. You need to disable the indexing and see if it fixes the issue.

  1. Press Win+R to open the Run box. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  2. It opens the Services window. Find Windows Search service in the list and right-click on it. Now select Stop to disable indexing.

3. Scan the files with antivirus
4. Update All Drivers
5. Run Disk Defragmenter on both Drives
6. Format the destination drive in NTFS
7. Turn off antivirus and Windows Defender
8. Check the Available Storage Space
