Legoman Posted January 15, 2023 #1 Posted January 15, 2023 Application: I use a computer for computer stuff during work day, but in evenings it doubles as a media server for a smart TV over the network. So roughly 8hrs = work, 8hrs = media serving, 8hrs stagnant not being actively used. Does anyone know at any add-on software that can switch the Windows power options according to this schedule, such that 'Balanced' is used during work day, 'Always On' is used during media streaming and 'Power Saving' is used during the non-use period when asleep? I know 'Always On' will solve the problem for all three periods, but I don't really need the mechanical wear & tear on the HDDs connected to it as they're still aging spinning disc drives. Any suggestions?
Administrator draww Posted January 16, 2023 Administrator #2 Posted January 16, 2023 @Legoman actually you can do it using internal tools & commands. on command prompt type Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. to list available power options. it'll print out something like: Quote Existing Power Schemes (* Active) ----------------------------------- Power Scheme GUID: 9897998c-92de-4669-853f-b7cd3ecb2790 (Balanced) Power Scheme GUID: 9935e61f-1661-40c5-ae2f-8495027d5d5d (High performance) * Power Scheme GUID: a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a (Power saving) you can activate any profile using the command as follows: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. there's only one thing left after all of this: using task scheduler to create daily tasks that'll be triggered on desired times. task action will be one of the above /setactive command 3
Legoman Posted January 16, 2023 Author #3 Posted January 16, 2023 Genius. Absolute dead-set, blue-ribband, gold medal award-winning genius! Even better than that if it actually works. Have set the schedule, will see if it works tonight when I go to watch something from my media centre PC.
Legoman Posted January 16, 2023 Author #4 Posted January 16, 2023 It works. Exactly as descibed. Problem solved.
