no internet connection

morning uk666. have tried the tosh config. it tells me the wlan and the lan (obviously, not connected on cable and makes no difference if i am) have no connection. when i check again, i see the same as before

IPv4 WINS Server

 

all blank.

well, i read on the net that if you power the laptop down, remove the battery and then hold the power on button for a minimum of 30Secs, replace the battery, start up, then wireless will work. i tried that, and, smack me with a wet kipper, it worked! unbelievable!

i haven't as yet tried wired connection. will do so in a bit.

the thing that is still not working, as far as i can see is the laptop isn't receiving ip address automatically under ipv4 or ipv6. both are set to do so, but nothing is showing. i thought that was the reason i couldn't get to the net originally, but must have been something else. what do i try now guys?

Have you any firewall or anti-virus on the laptop?

 

Have you changed any firewall or anti-virus programs lately?

 

Check the computer for malware and remove any found e.g., Malwarebyte Anti-Malware let it detect and remove any malicious programs from your computer.

 

Please post any warning message or errors, try the following:

 

• Please click on Start, then right-click on Computer, then click on Manage, then click on Device manager, then open/expand Network adapters and right-click on each of the items under it, click on Uninstall, and confirm. Then restart the computer.
  
• Please click on Start->All Programs->Accessories, then right-click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator. Then type:
  
• netsh winsock reset  and press Enter.
  
• ipconfig /release  and press Enter.
  
• ipconfig /flushdns  and press Enter.
  
• netsh int ip reset netshlog.txt  and press Enter.
  
• Then restart the computer and check. If not fix - Open Network Diagnostics by right clicking the network icon in the notification area, and then clicking Diagnose and repair.

well guys, as daft as it sounds (to me anyway) that battery pull trick seems to have done the trick. i have been on and off the net since doing it, all without issue and have tried it on cable as well. i'll return the laptop to the owner tomorrow and see how he gets on.

 

i want to thank you guys for coming to my aid over this. your help has been most appreciated.

 

something else i learned on my 'net travels, looking for a solution as well was that if the ipv4 etc is set to auto get an ip address, it wont show! same with the dns server. learn something every day! also saw where it's recomended to untick using ipv6. dont know if anyone can elaborate on why that is?

moving on from the last post, all appears to be good still, so i'm gonna take the heap of crap, i mean the laptop, ha ha, back. the non connecting to the 'net has gone. who would have thought that what seemed to be a ridiculous proceedure would have worked? after the time you spent and advice you gave me people, i hope you dont mind.

and sorry for the late reply, driver pack finds and installs drivers automatically. have you tried it also? if one driver fails to install, you can use PCI vendor ID (driver pack shows it to you in case of failed drivers installation) to google and find correct drivers.

many tnx to you humble3d and to you draaw.  the only program i tried whilst having this connection issue was network magic, as was suggested above by s33m33. i'll take a look at the ones you have suggested as well. the connection is still good, as far as i know (sure my neighbour would have been banging on the door by now if not!) but always good to have a couple of extra bits. when one dont work, another may.

hi UK666. i would say so, even though i still have no idea what the problem was keeping the laptop from connecting to the net, or indeed, what happened to actually make it connect! i haven't had any complaints about it, so assume it's still doing as it should do, so yes, mark it sorted, please.
