YouTube (and other video hosting site) downloaders

I need a reliable utility to download standalone videos from YouTube and other video hosting sites. I really need the ability to choose the speciifc resolution I want when such an ability is available as it is with YouTube. I don't always want the biggest or the smallest size and I don't want to rely on the generic settings some of them try to push on the user like "best", "medium", "smallest" etc.

Looking for recommendations please if anyone has any experience of these tools. There are a lot to choose from. So far I've tried these ones listed below, but the cracks in many cases appear to be very hit 'n miss. Some work once and then never again. Some don't work at all, others will work for a time until an online update you can't switch off, and then stop working thereafter.

Of those, I think I like the look and feel of By Click Downloader the best, but I can't find a version of it with a crack that works. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Try:

1. Disconnect from Internet.
2. Installed and Patch the program (offline)
3. Block the program with a firewall.
