I am using the latest unmanaged client version of SEP V. 14.3.4615.2000. How do I block certain apps calling home. This new version does not allow firewall to allow manual entries. It is greyed out. Any help please.

You need to have Admin rights to access Norton settings. You need to log in to your computer with an Administrator user account to change the product settings.

For Standard user accounts, some of the settings may appear disabled (grayed out).

By default, Norton firewall automatically configures Internet access settings for Web-enabled programs the first time that they run. When a program tries to access the Internet for the first time, Automatic Program Control creates rules for it.

However, Norton lets you can manually configure the Internet access settings for your programs.

Configure Internet access settings for your programs:

  1. Start Norton.
  2. If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.
  3. In the Norton main window, click Settings.
  4. In the Settings window, click Firewall.
  5. In the Firewall settings window, click Advanced Program Control.
  6. In the Automatic Program Control row, move the On/Off switch to Off.
  7. In the confirmation window, click Yes.
  8. In the Settings window, click Apply, and then click Close.

As you have an UNMANAGED SEP client, you should be able to  make manual entries to your SEP on you PC. But It is greyed out. You need to log in to your computer with an Administrator user account to change the product settings.

Norton = Symantec Endpoint Protection
