MBR will be created when the first partition on the hard drive is created and it is a very important data structure on the first sector of disk, which contains the partition table for the drive as well as a small amount of executable code for the boot start. Once the MBR file is damaged or inaccessible, you may not be able to boot your system at all, and error information as "Operating System not found", "Error loading operating system", "Missing operating system" or "Invalid partition table" will show up. If you receive any of these errors, you need to fix MBR in Windows 10/8/7 to get rid of the boot issues. Usually, the MBR problem might be caused by malware infection, or improper shutdown. In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to repair the Master Boot Record on your computer. When you first boot up a Windows 10 PC it should recognize that there’s a problem and enter “automatic repair” mode. When it does, you’ll see the words "Preparing Automatic Repair” appear below the blue Windows logo. If that doesn’t happen, but you do see the blue Windows logo, turn off your computer using the hard reset/power button. Keep turning the computer on and off until you see your PC booting into automatic repair. It should only take a few reboots. Now go to Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen below. If you’re running an older version of Windows, or if your Windows 10 PC isn’t launching the Repair Options, you’ll need to use the Windows 10 Install Setup on CD/DVD/USB or using System Repair Disc. Press the Power Button on the PC, then repeatedly press and release F12 until the Boot Menu comes. (It’s usually the F12 or F8 but it could be another as well, depending on the manufacturer.) Doing that will make your computer display a Boot Priority Selection Menu. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the drive with the Windows 10 Install Setup. (CD/DVD/USB) Then, press Enter and, when asked to press any key to boot from that drive, do so. Now go to - Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps. If the boot menu does not come up, you may have had to enter the BIOS Setup. In order to access BIOS, you must repeatedly press and release the BIOS key set by your manufacturer which could be F10, F2, F12, F1, or DEL. (Watch for an "entering setup" message in the first few seconds after turning on your computer. This message varies greatly from computer to computer and may include the key you need to press to enter BIOS.) In BIOS make sure that the Boot is set to Both Hard Drive/SSD and Legacy. Make sure First Boot Priority is set to Legacy (CD/DVD/USB). Save the settings Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps: Click next and select Repair your computer. Black screen appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD”. Press any key. Once your PC boot-up you will be asked to choose the keyboard layout that you want to use. When this happens, click, or tap on the layout that matches your keyboard. To navigate between all the available keyboard layouts, press “See more keyboard layouts”. The list of available keyboard languages is quite long and you may have to scroll a lot until you find the layout that you want to use. Select the correct Keyboard type. Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen. Click or tap on Troubleshoot (Reset your PC or see advanced options). You’ll see a screen with five/six options. If you want, you can select Start-up Repair before turning to the Command Prompt and Bootrec. Start-up Repair is an automated program that will try to fix any problems it finds on the computer It’s a good utility that may fix your problem, but sometimes it’s does not work. Click on Command Prompt. Note. “Bootrec /fixmbr” - The space between “exe” and “/fixmbr” it’s critical to include this space for the command to run properly. Type these following commands and press Enter after each enter: Bootrec /fixmbr Press Enter Bootrec /fixboot Press Enter Bootrec /scanos Press Enter Bootrec /rebuildbcd Press Enter chkdsk /r Press Enter Running CHKDSK /F on c drive and you’re likely to see this: Answer Y for Yes and then reboot your system. CHKDSK will run before Windows starts so it can repair the drive before Windows starts using it. Close the Command Prompt Window and then remove the Windows Disc from your Optical Drive or the Windows flash Drive from its USB Port. Select Restart from the System Recovery Options window or choose Continue from the main Advanced Start-up Options screen. Windows should start normally now.
