pablocat Posted August 23, 2020 #1 Posted August 23, 2020 Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows how to manually transfer updated maps from a newer Garmin GPS unit that has lifetime map updates, to an older Garmin GPS unit that requires you to purchase the maps. Any help would be appreciated. pablocat
Andr-Tech uk666 Posted August 23, 2020 Andr-Tech #2 Posted August 23, 2020 To be honest I don’t see maps changing that much, how many new roads have been built in past 6 years. Anyhow give this site a try: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. 8 2
Administrator Bad Karma Posted August 24, 2020 Administrator #3 Posted August 24, 2020 Maybe if you could be precise with what you want to update. What model of Garmin is it ? (portable, android version of Garmin, embarked in a car,...) Make a precise description of what you want may eventually give you a better answer than letting anybody guess in the wild. 2

Hi Bad Karma, Thanks for replying. I have an older Garmin Nuvi 255W satnav unit that I want to do some map updates. Unfortunately, this unit does not have Lifetime map updates. This has been confirmed with Garmin Express. The installed map on this unit is from 2011. What I want to do is manually update this unit with updated newer North America maps? Also, I want to install the new maps on a 32GB microsd card Any help would be greatly appreciated. pablocat Edited August 24, 2020 by pablocat incomplete info 2
Andr-Tech uk666 Posted August 24, 2020 Andr-Tech #5 Posted August 24, 2020 Download United States map for 32GB sd card This site uses BitTorrent for map downloads. If you don't already have a BitTorrent application installed, I recommend installing: µTorrent. Go to: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. Click on - download map for sd card. You have download magnet link: OpenMapChest_Contiguous_United_States_2020.08.22_gmapsupp.torrent Click on it and µTorrent will start downloading the map: OpenMapChest_Contiguous_United_States_2020.08.22.zip Installing the Map on an SD-card Unzip the zip file that you have downloaded. You will have a file called "gmapsupp.img". Insert your SD-card into your SD-card reader. If you don't have an SD-card reader, you can connect your Garmin GPS to your computer with a USB cable. Make sure that the SD-card is in the GPS unit before you plug it into the computer. You need to format SD-card with FAT32 How do I format my SD card to fat32: Connect the 32GB sd card to your computer. Right-click the SD card and choose Format. Select FAT32 as the file system. Apply the changes. Copy the Map on an SD-card Open the SD-card with the file manager. Create a new folder and name the folder "Garmin", the folder name must begin with a capital "G" Copy the "gmapsupp.img" file into the "Garmin folder" on the SD-card. Safely remove the SD-card once the file has finished copying Turn on your Garmin GPS with the SD-card inserted and go through the following screen navigation: Touch the Map Info button at the bottom and check the box beside the OpenMapChest map to enable it. You should also uncheck the built-in map if the map areas overlap. Should work but if not try: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. Not many, for sure my , uk666. However, it happens more and more that in 1 and the same year some cities change their streets, from double sided to one-way streets. That's the main reason why I update my maps every time new ones are released. 3
