Here are funny requests that are often given to newbies, or as part of initiative rites for new employees.  

Other names for this mischief include: fool's errand, snipe hunt or a wild goose chase.  

You can picture the scenario, 'Hey Sonny, go down to the stores and ask Joe for, bird food for the cuckoo....'

Funny Requests:

  1. Bird food for the cuckoo, in the cuckoo clock.
  2. Threadless screws.
  3. Sparks for the fire.
  4. Stripy paint.
  5. Some electricity (usually the fool is sent away from stores with a battery).
  6. Data packets.
  7. Non-conductive cardboard.
  8. Roll of film, for the digital Camera.
  9. Dry water.
  10. Left-handed tablespoon.
  11. Elbow grease.
  12. Sparks for the angle grinder.
  13. Blinker fluid/indicator fluid (car mechanics).
  14. Half-round squares.
  15. White ink for the inkjet printer.
  16. Skirting board ladder.
  17. Long weights (wait!).
  18. Battery-powered electric plug.
  19. Bucket of steam.
  20. Flux capacitor (only to be found in a sci-fi movie).
  21. Gallon of dehydrated water.
  22. Glass hammer.
  23. Battery for the dynamo flashlight.
  24. Box of sparks for spark plugs.
  25. Left-handed hammers.
  26. Shelf stretchers.
  27. Bucket of compressed air.
  28. Copper magnet.
  29. Bit bucket for the bits lost when the computer system crashes.
  30. Rubber nails.
  31. Sky hooks - low cloud type.
  32. Replacement bubble for the spirit level.
  33. Holes for hole punches.
  34. Jars of elbow grease.
  35. The lost document files.
  36. Imperial adjustable wrenches.
  37. Striped paint.
  38. Hard punch.
  39. Gallon of jet wash.
