Quote

Quite a few bootlegs resulted from the 1994 Woodstock Festival in Upstate New York; one of them was this two-CD set by Aerosmith. Although Woodstock 1994 may be a soundboard recording, its sound quality isn't perfect -- certainly decent, but not perfect. Woodstock 1994 isn't among the many Aerosmith bootlegs of the 1990s that boasts sharp, rich, audiophile-like sound, and for that reason, it isn't the ideal document of Aerosmith on stage during that decade. Aerosmith's set, however, is nothing to complain about. Playing for an audience that was said to be 300,000 strong, Aerosmith is consistently inspired and focused on gems from the late 1980s and early 1990s -- including "Crazy," "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "Crying," "Janie's Got a Gun," "Eat the Rich," and "Love in an Elevator" -- as well as old 1970s favorites such as "Walk This Way," "Dream On," "Mama Kin," "Sweet Emotion," and "Toys in the Attic." Meanwhile, the sound quality is superb (as opposed to simply decent) on six bonus tracks, all of them acoustic performances from 1991. Hearing unplugged, ultra-bluesy versions of "Train Kept A-Rollin'," "Walkin' the Dog," and "Big Ten Inch Record," one is reminded just how deep Aerosmith's roots go. Woodstock 1994 isn't recommended to casual listeners, but collectors and seasoned Aerosmith fans will find it rewarding and will appreciate the fact that 21 of its 27 tracks were recorded at a historic event.
