Popular Post koolkat Posted May 14, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted May 14, 2020 Like free lunches, free VPN services are not supposed to exist. This is because operating a VPN service has real costs, which its provider justifiably wants to recover. Thus, “free” VPN’s are associated with serious drawbacks, like heavy advertising and severe limitations on speed, bandwidth and number of locations. Notwithstanding the above, I came across VPN Pro: https://www.vpnpro.net/ (note the .net extension instead of the commercial .com) Claims Entirely free No advertising No bandwidth limitation Total privacy and anonymity Secure encrypted connection Broad range of locations Fast connection Allows torrenting Active community So I decided to give it a try No registration, giving email or any personal data was necessary. Installation went quickly and easily, no puzzling choices and settings. Operation is super-simple. There is an ample choice of locations, some with several servers. The options in settings are minimal, in fact too much so. There are no ads in sight. Testing I checked some locations and the IPs were highly anonymous. But I had some trouble connecting to a few distant locations. I downloaded a couple of torrents of several GB at a fair speed. I managed to beat Rapidgator’s waiting time between downloads, something I couldn’t do with proxies, including Tor. In conclusion so far, though not perfect, I’d give it the thumbs up. Well, I do expect there is a catch somewhere, and even suspect what it might be, but until I know for sure, I intend to carry on using the service. 13 7 Link to comment

So Browsec seems best on mobile devices, for which I don’t know much, so I can’t comment. But on desktops, Browsec is just a browser extension, not a standalone VPN. So it will bypass geo-restrictions. But as browsers are not torrent clients, any extension will not work for torrents, which do not pass thru the browser. VPN pro on the other hand, will get torrents and has done for me. Personally, I only wanted a VPN for torrents, as my Opera browser already comes with a VPN extension built-in. And trying to get torrents without a VPN can land you in serious legal trouble. 4 Link to comment
koolkat Posted October 22, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted October 22, 2021 UPDATE This free VPN was too good to last and has now stopped working. For the best free alternative I could find see this thread: https://forum-andr.net/forums/topic/212063-how-to-get-the-best-free-vpn-service/ Link to comment
