Maura Fogarty was born and raised in New York City. As a first-generation Irish-American, she began playing the accordion at the age of 8 and was performing professionally at the tender age of 12. Attending the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan, Fogarty studied classical violin and piano. The path was clear growing up listening to Irish and Country music, next destination Music City U.S.A., Nashville, Tn.

Songwriting with and for the Grammy Award-winning producer and guitarist, Randy Scruggs, Fogarty developed her writing skills, taking her 1st album "color of my heart" to the 100th episode of Dawson's Creek with the song "Under My Skin" co-written with John Bertsche, as well as having the voice of Trisha Yearwood record "When Will I See You Again" co-written with Randy Scruggs.

Aged just 43, Fogarty collapsed on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. She reportedly suffered a heart attack that may have been induced by an asthma attack.

Maura Fogarty was a critically acclaimed musician who was well known in Irish American music circles and beyond them.

Not infrequently she gave of her talent for good causes, an example being a Gaelic Park fundraiser in 2002 in aid of a Limerick boy, Thomas O'Sullivan, who needed life-saving brain surgery in New York.
