pablocat Posted December 6, 2018 #1 Posted December 6, 2018 Hi, I have a couple of quick questions regarding Android Oreo 8.1 on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T590 tablet. 1) Anyone know how to Backup the Stock ROM and apps of this tablet without rooting ( either built-in app or third party app)? 2) How do you manually install the apps (apk files) offline from the Mobile section of the forum, after they have been downloaded to PC? Thanks, pablocat
Andr-Tech uk666 Posted December 7, 2018 Andr-Tech #2 Posted December 7, 2018 1. How to enable the Android backup service Before we get started with restoring data, you have to make sure that the backup service is running on your current phone. Here's how you can get started: 1. Open Settings from the home screen or app drawer. 2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. 3. Tap System. 4. Select Backup. 5. Ensure the Back up to Google Drive toggle is selected. 6. You'll be able to see the data that is being backed up. Now that you've enabled the Android backup service, your system settings and app data will be automatically saved to Drive. 2. How do you manually install the apps, from PC Go to Menu > Settings > Security > and check Unknown Sources to allow your phone to install apps from sources other than the Google Play Store. Android 8.0 Oreo does things a little differently. Rather than check a global setting to allow installation from unknown sources, you'll be you'll be prompted to allow your browser or file manager to install APKs the first time you attempt to do so. If you like, you can also download a file manager app so you can easily find files on your Android device. e.g X-plore File Manager v4.00.08 [Android]: Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. Once you've downloaded the APK file on your computer, connect your Android device to it. At this point, you may be asked if you want to charge your phone or connect it as a 'media device.' Choose Media device. Then, find your phone's folder on your computer. It will be in 'My Computer' or 'Computer' on Windows (PC). Copy the APK file into a folder of your choice in your Android smartphone. You will now be able to search for the file location in the My files folder of your device. Find the APK file, tap it, then hit Install. And now you're done, congratulations, you have your app. Just open it up from your smartphone and make sure it works properly. If it doesn't, repeat the process with a different APK file Please do not hesitate to let us know, if you have any questions 7
pablocat Posted December 7, 2018 Author #3 Posted December 7, 2018 @uk666 Can I move the installed apps from internal memory to the MicroSD card to run the apps from there? If I want to install ebooks (pdf, mobi, azw3, epub) to the MicroSD card, can I just drag them to any folder in the SD card, or do they have to be placed in a certain folder i.e. Android/data. Thanks for all your help.
Administrator Bad Karma Posted December 8, 2018 Administrator #4 Posted December 8, 2018 The response is yes twice. Your ebooks may be stored anywhere on your smartphone. A lot of appz may be moved to a sd card. Not all system apps will allow this. If you want some hep about this, why not try something like AppMGR III. This app will give you a clear indication if an app can be moved to SD. Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. 6
Andr-Tech uk666 Posted December 8, 2018 Andr-Tech #5 Posted December 8, 2018 To move them all at once, or in large amounts, you can connect the tablet to a computer via USB cord, then move the files over to an empty folder on the computer. Once there, and still connected via USB, you can then move or copy the files over to the SD card. Make new folder on the SD card, if you wish or use any existing folders. Personally, I would suggest leaving a copy on the computer as a back-up. You may also want to change the settings in apps that you use to create new files (like the camera) to save new ones to the card rather than the tablet. Now if you are wanting to move apps to the card, that is a whole other story. I don’t think it is really necessary. 5 1
pablocat Posted December 8, 2018 Author #6 Posted December 8, 2018 @uk666 My intention is to move whatever apps that are possible to SD card to save space in the internal memory. I have tried the app AppMgr III recommended by Bad Karma. Most of the apps were transferable except for a Camera app. As for the stock ROM, is there any apps or third party software to save or backup with, or only by rooting the tablet? Thanks
Administrator draww Posted December 9, 2018 Administrator #7 Posted December 9, 2018 in most cases you need root because you have to flash a custom recovery. the built in recovery mode will only allow you to format your device to factory settings. but custom recovery like Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. or Hidden Content Give reaction to this post to see the hidden content. (CWM) allows you to backup & restore original system files (including installed apps) and more. Backup using ROM Manager on a rooted device 6
Administrator Bad Karma Posted December 9, 2018 Administrator #8 Posted December 9, 2018 And just to add a little precision to draww's post, rooting your phone will also allow you to remove system apps. But therefore, a wise precaution recommends you to do a full backup of your phone. Removing system apps may impact other apps that need the app you just want to remove. 4 1

As of that point in time, any new apps will get auto-installed on your SD Card. How To Enable Developer Mode On Samsung Go to your Samsung “Application” icon and Open Settings option. Under Settings option, select About phone, then choose Software Information. Scroll down the screen and tap Build number several times until you see a message that says “Developer mode has been enabled”. SuperModerator BamSec1 Posted December 13, 2018 SuperModerator #11 Posted December 13, 2018 One more method to install APKs is as follows; If you have a card-reader attached to (or in) your PC you can also copy all APK files you want to install to a directory on your SD-Card. You may want to name it "Downloads" or "APKs". I did so the first time and included Total Commander for smartphones. The very first thing I did after inserting the SD-card to my phone was installing Total Commander. Then it's easy to install your APK files: simply load Total Commander and browse to your "Downloads" or "APKs" directory. Select the apk you want to install, tap on it and choose "Install" Edit: To move already installed apps from phone to the SD-Card I use the Apps2SD program. But if I remember well, I think it only works on rooted phones ... mine is rooted. 4 2
