PROBLEM ACCESSING LACIE 5TB WIN 10

Recommended Posts

Upgraded yesterday to Windows 10.

I have no problem to access Lacie 4Tb but Lacie 5Tb is not viewable.

In hardware it says that there is a problem.

After reading posts on internet, I can see that a lot of people (still) have the identical problem but a fix isn't given (or in my case not the solution).

Did you try to connect the USB drive to other USB port on the back of the PC and check if it helps?

Try these methods and see if this resolves the issue.

1: Check the device manager.
Right click start select device manager.
If you have any yellow exclamation marks next to devices, there either aren't capable with 10 or incorrectly
installed.

f you are running on an Intel processor try download the MEI device direct from Intel and the intelRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) the mei handle the Intel naming of the motherboard system devices including the USB controller the Intel RST monitors the hard-drive smart status within windows.

2: Open the Hardware and devices troubleshooter:
Follow the steps given below:
Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel
Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.
Click on View all on the left navigation pane.
Click on Hardware and devices.
Click on Advanced on the Hardware and devices dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).
Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

3: If the issue does not get resolved by the above method, you may try to uninstall and reinstall the USB driver on the computer.
Follow the steps:
a) Press Windows + X key on the keyboard and select Device Manager.
b) Locate the USB driver.
c) Right click on the USB driver icon and select Uninstall.
d) Restart the computer. After restarting the computer, USB driver will automatically be installed.
e) Connect the external hard drive through the USB and check if it responds.

4: Power off and remove the power plug for about 5 minute from PC.
Unplug all external drives etc. Obviously leave Monitor / keyboard / mouse connected.
Boot up
After boot completed plug in USB 3 drives.

5: If they don't show this will often work:
Get into control panel (right mouse click on the start button).
Choose Administrative tools->computer management->Disk management(when the snapin appears).
Scroll down the list of HDD's - you might see your external HDD but with no Disk drive letter assigned
Choose the disk with no letter and right click on it - then choose change drive letter and path - note click in the Disk space not on the title panel which says for example Disk 1 basic 3706.02GB NTFS (your HDD's will probably have a different size).
Use the drop down to assign a letter
Windows should now recognize the device.

I hope the above information helps. let us know if it works or you if need any further assistance.

Thank you for the advice. But I already tried the above (and more)! Could find a lot of people still searching for a solution but none that worked (for me).

I would have tought that the HD would appear in disk management (as in Win 7 when you have a conflict) but the HD didn't show up.

Stragely enough installing a brand new identical harddisk went without a problem. But even the supplied software didn't recognize my old HD.

So what did I finally do: I made a copy from the old HD to the new (recognized) HD using my portable on Win 7. Took days but I have my data back.
